This truck had seem more of my life that any other will. I got it just after grad school. Shortly after that I kidnapped my wife (girlfriend at the time) and drove to Niagara Falls where I proposed. This truck then helped us move into our new home. It hauled 1000 lbs of horse hair plaster to the dump during renovation time. It picked up a shitload of lumber to help build the new addition. It also carried around the two additions to our family, our twin girls. No other vehicle will have this list of achievements. I miss it.

On this day 1 year ago my boss was kind enough to let us leave after lunch. When I started her up and it sounded horrible. It ended up that the timing chain ate a guide rail for lunch and caused damage to valves and heads. Fuck. $2800 later and a new(er) engine it was back on the road.... and that only took about 3 months, thanks mechanic, you douche. When I got it back it just wasn't the same. I could feel the transmission wasn't happy with what had happened and decided it was time to part before another massive repair bill. But with ever door that closes another opens. This one just happened to come with a 265 hp turbo 4.

I always kind of liked the Sport Trac. It would have been even nicer if it had been one of several versions of the FOUR DOOR RANGER EVERYBODY ELSE GOT FORD YOU BASTARDS but I digress.

Yea if there was something newer at a decent price I absolutely would have gone that route.

It's like one of those sad movies where the secondary character is a widower with 2 cute kids. The mom who died, wrote them all letters for each birthday and milestone she would miss. And most of all she wrote a letter for the woman who her husband would someday fall in love with.

We still love our 2001 Sport-Trac. I love people's reaction when they jump in and notice it's a manual. This thing just WON'T DIE.

Wow. I didn't know they made manual. Any interest in buying a sub/amp/box? Is custom fit to go under the passenger side rear seat.

The unnatural attachment we have with our trucks, no? I have a '98 Taco (Ext Cab, SR5, 4WD, of course) with 237K on it. While it now enjoys retirement duty (a pretty Swedish girl does the day to day stuff) the Taco just won't die. I've been showing it some love as of late: New tires last month; today it's new half shaft and wheel bearing (0pposite sides, interestingly); within the next month replace the cam cover gaskets. I do look at new vehicles, e.g. the "new" Taco, but I just can't seem to let go of a vehicle that can reasonably have 100K left in it. I do dread the day that there will be a failure too big to repair...but I'm tearing up and don't want to talk about it any more...
